Artist's Comments

Small wooden figures called shabti were buried with the dead in Egypt - they were to act as servants for the rich or important in the afterlife. When i did this pic i thought of wood straight away and it seemed sort of morbid and dark too..thus the burial association.

Thanks - yes the colours are very strong i suppose and because there are quite a few layers of other colours beneath the final coat, it makes the picture more interesting, more rich.

Thanks - It has a certain feel about it, this pic and I had lots of fun doing it, there was paint everywhere haha

Thanks Liviaa - I always appreciate your opinion on stuff, you have a good eye for interesting pieces of work.

Beautiful and thoughtful, as always.

Thanks again....i think sometimes my favourite part of painting is matching a weird and often esoteric or ancient name to the finished product...it just adds to the mystery most times. I hate things being tooooooo obvious.

I just love all that texture and the deep colors. The concept fits well too.
